No more sifting through search results that miss the mark

Whether you’re a designer, architect, landscape architect, contractor, municipality, or project owner, sourcing the right vendors is often one of the most time-consuming parts of a project. Too often, teams rely on generic search engines or broad directories that lack context, credibility, and industry specificity.

Knode was built to solve that problem.

More than a directory, Knode is a purpose-built platform designed to help you find qualified, relevant, and location-appropriate vendors across green infrastructure, biophilic design, landscaping, and related disciplines—using powerful search, filtering, and geolocation tools.

This guide walks you through how to use those tools effectively.

In This Article:

Why Use Knode Instead of Google or Generic Directories?

While platforms like Google or Houzz can surface options, they often fall short when projects require:

  • Verified industry credentials
  • Specialized scopes (design vs. supply vs. maintenance)
  • System-specific expertise (green roofs, living walls, stormwater, etc.)
  • Regional availability and service alignment
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration

Knode is designed specifically for professionals working in nature-integrated projects, where clarity and accuracy matter. We stay in out lane and don’t dilute the profiles or listings.

The Vendor Directory: One Place to Source Products and Services

Knode’s Vendor Directory houses both product listings and service listings in one unified experience. These listings live on the same page and share the same robust search and filter tools—making it easy to compare options and understand capabilities at a glance.

Both members and non-members can:

  • Search the directory
  • View vendor profiles
  • Explore product and service listings
  • Post to the exclusive job board
  • Connect directly via the platform, or reach out directly. No middle-person.

Access to the private job board is offered to vendors only. This keeps our project owners confident and safe, posting high-value and relevant projects and requests.

Using Keyword Search for Broad or Targeted Discovery

At the top of the directory, you’ll find a keyword search bar that allows you to search across:

  • Company names
  • Products
  • Services
  • Keywords
  • Umbrella terms ie. living architecture, green wall, moss frame etc.

This is ideal if you already know what you’re looking for (e.g. “living wall maintenance” or “green roof consultant”) or if you want to explore broadly within a theme.

Categories can also be searched directly, even though they live within the filter panel—making discovery flexible and intuitive.

Filters That Match How Projects Actually Work

Filter your results by:

  • Scope offered
  • Regions served
  • Team credentials (LEED, Fitwel, etc.)
  • Environment (interior, exterior)

Examples

Here’s how these tools can come together in practice:

  • Sourcing a landscape designer or architect
Filter by Landscaping & GardenDesign → your location.
  • Finding a living wall supplier and installer
Filter by Living Wall, Vertical Garden & Green FacadesSupply + Installation → Interior or Exterior → Map view.
  • Identifying a green roof maintenance provider
Filter by Green RoofMaintenance → Certifications → Proximity.

Using Geolocation & Map View to Source Regionally

Location matters—especially for installation, maintenance, and region-specific expertise. Is your firm based in Chicago, working on a project for a New York based client? Knode allows you to source the experts you need – site specifically.

How Location Works

  • Users enter a location manually
  • Results are shown within a defined radius
  • You can open the interactive map in a new view to zoom in or out

What You’ll See on the Map

  • Vendor pins tied to the address associated with their profile or listing
  • Pins sync dynamically with your selected filters and search terms

What You’ll Find on a Vendor Profile

Clicking into a vendor profile gives you deeper insight, including:

  • Company name and contact details
  • Products and service listings
  • Portfolio images and description
  • Scope of work offered
  • Regions served
  • Team certifications and credentials
  • Sectors serviced (commercial, residential)
  • Years of experience
  • Environment focus (interior/exterior)
  • Public contact details (phone, email, website)

Profiles also include a direct message button, allowing you to contact vendors directly through the platform.

A Note on Collaboration: The Project Board

While this post focuses on sourcing vendors through the directory, it’s worth noting that Knode also offers a private Project Board for deeper collaboration.

  • Anyone can post a project (with a free account), subject to review
  • Only paying members (Tier 2 and 3) can view and respond to all postings
  • Vendors can submit offers directly through the platform

This creates a procurement shortcut for vendors while giving project owners access to a vetted, relevant network.

Increasing Visibility Through Spotlight Features

Knode is intentionally designed to create awareness for the companies on the platform. We’ll include spotlight articles of our members which include:

  • A company overview or product/service highlight
  • High-level project or application examples

These spotlights appear across:

  • The Knode Articles page
  • Rotating homepage features
  • Instagram (feed and stories)
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Knode’s newsletter

All spotlights link directly back to the vendor’s public profile—supporting visibility, credibility, inbound leads, and long-term SEO value.
